The meeting was held in the Pakistan Cricket Board offices this Monday. It was decided that Lahore Qalandars, the defending champions of HBL PSL 7, will take the first draft pick from the Platinum 1 category. Subsequently, Quetta Gladiators, the winning team of HBL PSL 4, and Multan Sultans, the winner of HBL PSL 6, are second and third in the queue to pick from the Platinum 1 category.
Furthermore, the winners of HBL PSL 5, Karachi Kings, and the two times winning team of PSL 3 & 1, Islamabad United, are fourth and fifth in line to choose a player from the Platinum category. However, Peshawar Zalmi, winning champions of HBL PSL 2, will have their pick at sixth number.
The rest of the 17 rounds were decided by using a statistical tool made especially for this purpose. Furthermore, Usman Wahla, HBL PSL 8 tournament director, said, “We have set small milestones for our flagship event and Pick Order for HBL PSL 2023 was one of the targets. This has set the tone for this year’s Player Draft as the teams will now have absolute clarity on their turn and how they will make the best use of their chances to pick players for one of the most grueling and fiercely-contested leagues.
