HBL PSL 8 will have six teams competing with one another. The six teams include Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, and Multan Sultans. Mainly, this league is sponsored by HBL (Habib Bank Limited) among other sponsors.
Each of the PSL 8 teams has owners who bought them after bidding on them. Altogether, these six teams are worth US$98.2 million which is a huge amount of money. Among these six teams, five of them excluding Multan Sultans were bought in 2015 at a decided price of US$92 million for ten years.
Because back in 2015, when the debut of the Pakistan Super League happened, there were only five teams officially included in the tournament. However, later in 2017, a new team, named Multan Sultans, was officially announced and sold at US$5.2 million per year.

However, the first owners of the Multan Sultans team were Schon Properties (a foreign investor). But they could not meet up the requirements and failed to pay the per-year cost of the Multan Sultans franchise. As a result, this contract was terminated in 2018, and after that Alamgir Tareen Khan, who is a son of a strong local politician and big real estate owner Alamgir Tareen Khan. Alamgir is the current owner of the Multan Sultans team until he could not pay US$5.2 million every year.
